300mm silicon wafers from eBay.  $2 each x 25.  Blurry grey on one side, mirror pink on the other.  Thanks to my brother Marc for designing the layout.

They are mounted on the wall using double sided sticky tape.

Heat Transfer Vinyl

I got some Siser heat transfer vinyl in black and silver from Specialty Graphics (I always seem to receive the vinyl slightly mangled, so I can’t recommend them particularly), they sell it by the foot for, if not cheap, a decent price.  Using TechShop’s vinyl cutter (remember to mirror your image before cutting), I cut out three patterns:

The pictures look particularly bad, but the middle shirt turned out the best.  It’s two waveforms imposed on each other, I actually did each as its own layer, just to make it more solid, though getting the alignment right was annoying.

Getting the ironing times right without a heat press is a bit hard, I ended up just cutting out a few pieces with scissors and trying different heat settings on the industrial style iron at TechShop.

Putting consistent heavy pressure on a single area seems to be effective, so doing large patterns is kind of hard without messing up the surface of the vinyl.  I’ve got a teflon sheet to put on top which was useful for fixing parts that were not fully anchored after I removed the sticky clear side of the vinyl.

Still need to wash them to see if the vinyl is on there good, but it looks better than the last test.
